'The Retreat' is part of our spacious 250 year old Charentaise farmhouse/barn conversion, lovingly renovated to the highest standards whilst retaining much of its original charm, with solid oak beams and exposed stonework.
The cottage has three spacious double/twin bedrooms (one en-suite), family bathroom, relaxing lounge and a fully equipped kitchen that can accommodate 6 people in comfort, unlike many other tiny 'gites' on the market.
Outside the cottage there are open gardens with swings, a terrace, games area and BBQ that lead to the enclosed 14 x 4 metre private heated swimming pool with sun loungers and outdoor dining area.
We are located in the tiny hamlet of St Martin-de-la-Coudre mid-way between the charming historic towns of Surgères and St Jean d'Angléy, both with their vibrant markets, restaurants and bars; all of which sell amazing wine, food, fresh fish, seafood and locally grown or caught produce.

This is a perfect location for just relaxing and unwinding next to the pool or exploring the many beautiful villages and towns of the region, such as La Rochelle, Cognac, Saintes, Bordeaux and Rochefort.
'The Retreat' is just 40 minutes from the coast, including the stunning beaches of Royan, Chatelaillon-Plage and the picturesque islands of Ile de Ré, Oléron and d'Aix.
The perfect location for spending time cycling to local villages or Châteaux for a lazy lunch on one of the many designated cycle routes that surround the house.
Quiet lanes and well marked footpaths, make the surrounding area ideal for walks in the beautiful French countryside with its abundant wildlife.
Motorcyclists and cyclists are more than welcome to make 'The Retreat' a base for touring or training holidays in the South-West region of France. As a former motorcycle racer and member of national & professional cycling teams, Richard, your host, is available to assist in every aspect of your trip, including maintenance, repairs, and route planning. All motorcycles and bikes can be securely stored on site.
